Sven and I are seldom as united as we are when it comes to our opinion about this city. We fell so much in love with Sydney that we couldn’t get the idea of emigrating out of our heads for days π This mix of world metropolis and incredibly relaxed Australians is simply awesome. After only half a day, we noticed that Sydney was simply different from everything we had seen before π
We spent the first day just walking around town and getting a first impression. The easiest way to find your way at first is to walk along the harbor. Incidentally, this is one of the most beautiful natural harbors in the world. We started at Darling Harbor, across Circular Quay, past the Sydney Opera House to the Botanical Garden.

The next day we went on a full day trip. During a city tour we got some background knowledge about the history of the origins of Sydney. A short photo stop at Milsons Point before we headed for the Featherdale Wildlife Park.

In the Featherdale Wildlife Park we had the opportunity to see a koala up close, fed the kangaroos and got to know a lot of local animals.
Our tour continued to the Blue Mountains. The Blue Mountains owe their name to the natural blue shimmer caused by the vast eucalyptus forests in this World Heritage region. Small droplets of oil released from the trees mix with water vapor and sunlight and this is how the unique color is created.
Before we went back to town, we made two short stops at Sydney’s most famous beaches: Manly Beach and Bondi Beach

As impressive as Sydney was during the day, the scenery at sunset, as soon as the lights come on, is simply breathtaking π We visited the Sydney Tower, more precisely the observation deck at a height of 251 meters.

From a culinary point of view, we didn’t miss anything in this metropolis π
One last stroll through the harbor at night before we sat on the plane back to Europe.
Our personal opinion about Sydney:
- is one of our absolute favorite cities
- we met extremely friendly and relaxed people
- has a lot of green space and recreational areas

Best travel time:
Sydney is an interesting destination all year round. However, we would recommend the months between October and April, these are the warmer months.
Hotel recommendation:
Sheraton Grand Sydney Hyde Park
More tips & recommendations:
You clearly have the best view of the whole city from the Sydney Tower, the viewing platform is at a height of 251 meters. We recommend going up shortly before sunset.
The city is just as beautiful to look at from the water. You can either book a boat tour through Sydney Harbor or take one of the many ferries, for example going under the Harbor Bridge with the Darling Harbor Ferry.
A stroll along the most beautiful harbor in the world is completely free of charge and still wonderful. Take enough time for this, you will find a nice place to linger everywhere. We took a walk (10 km), our starting point was Hyde Park. From here to Darling Harbor, Barangaroo Reserve, under the Harbor Bridge, over Circular Quay, past the Sydney Opera House to the Botanical Gardens and back to Hyde Park.

The Blue Mountains were a very nice trip. However, if you don’t have a lot of time in Sydney, I’d rather spend it in the city. There is so much to discover here.
