Las Vegas – a city that never sleeps

We arrived with very high expectations, we couldn’t stop being amazed the first night, gambled away our entire casino budget and were overjoyed to leave the city after 4 days 🤣🤣🤣 But let’s start at the beginning …

It was clear to us that we really wanted to spend the night in the famous Bellagio. We booked a room on one of the upper floors so that we had a fantastic view of the water features in front of the Bellagio. The plan was as follows: just check in briefly, freshen up and immediately start our tour through Las Vegas. Well, it didn’t go that fast … we didn’t leave the hotel until 2 hours later … In this large resort, you have to find your way around, just finding the room is a challenge 🤦

What we also completely underestimated were the long distances that you cover on the strip – be it the resorts themselves, as well as from one hotel to another. The recommended sidewalk leads through the hotels and casinos… a clever solution – you get stuck at a gaming table or slot machine every now and then 😉

We just drifted for a few hours and sank completely into the sea of lights.

Completely overwhelmed by the many impressions we fell into bed that night.

Since Las Vegas was the last stop on our almost 3-week California tour, we urgently needed to catch up on sleep. What should run away from us during the day. There was food in Las Vegas around the clock, and the city fascinated us much more after dark.

We had an extensive brunch in one of the many buffet restaurants just before noon. At almost 40 degrees we didn’t really feel like walking around afterwards. We slipped into our bathing robes and wanted to find a nice spot in the shade by the pool. Well, at least that’s what we thought …

What we hadn’t taken into account, it was Father’s Day Weekend in the USA and the hotels were at full capacity. Not only did we not find a place in the shade, there was actually not a single free lounger available in this large resort complex. Frustrated, we left again and decided to go to the air-conditioned rooms of the casinos. But we weren’t lucky here either. The money was quickly gambled away and we decided to spend the rest of the day in the gym and in the hotel room until it got dark 😂 Well … a short detour to an outlet mall was still possible during the day – our money was definitely better invested here than in the casinos and the mall had air conditioning 😉

Unseren 1. Hochzeitstag feierten wir im Restaurant Lago im Hotel Bellagio und kauften natürlich die völlig überteuerten Erinnerungsfotos 🤦

We tried to turn the nights into day and sleep a lot during the day and stay in air-conditioned rooms. With temperatures around 40 degrees we had absolutely no desire for sightseeing or any day trips.

Our biggest highlight, however, was still to come. When in Las Vegas you definitely have to see one of the big shows. We decided on the show “O ™” by Cirque du Soleil® in the Bellagio Resort – ABSOLUTELY WORTH SEEING !!!!!

Our personal opinion about Las Vegas:

  • impressive nightlife & entertainment
  • we would not recommend longer than 3 nights
  • avoid the summer months, far too hot
  • better to spend the money on shopping than in the casino 😉

Best travel time:

We personally would avoid the summer months from June to August, the temperatures occasionally even rise to over 40 degrees. We would recommend spring and autumn. When the temperature is pleasant, exploring is much more fun.

Hotel recommendation:

  • Hotel Bellagio (we stayed there)
  • Venetian Resort Hotel (we particulary liked this one when visiting the hotel facilities, maybe next time)

Restaurant recommendations:

  • LAGO by Julian Serrano at Hotel Bellagio
  • Gordon Ramsay Steak at Hotel Paris
  • Lotus of Siam

More tips & recommendations:

Be sure to book one of the big shows. We can absolutely recommend “O ™” – Cirque du Soleil at the Bellagio Hotel. Since we’ve already seen a lot, a show doesn’t knock us out that quickly, but it managed to take our breath away.

Visit the Stratosphere Tower – unfortunately at almost 40 degrees we weren’t motivated for sightseeing. However, if we are in Las Vegas again, we will definitely pay a visit to this observation tower.

Avoid the summer months if possible. We had completely underestimated the temperatures and would have done a lot more in a cooler season.

Better to spend your money shopping than in casinos. Here are 3 recommendations from us:
