Every few years we pay a visit to the Styrian capital. The city is also very easy to explore with a dog due to the many green spaces. Our highlight is definitely the Schlossberg with the clock tower – the city’s landmark. The Styrian cuisine comes right after that 😋
Graz is very manageable and can easily be explored on foot in one day.
This is an example who to spend a day in Graz:
IN THE MORNING: EXPLORING THE CITY CENTER
The main square is the focal point of the center of Graz … lined with magnificent buildings and crowned by the Graz town hall. It is an impressive backdrop for the hustle and bustle of the city and the focal point for visitors and city dwellers at the same time. From here, all of Graz’s attractions can be reached in no time.
From here you can take a detour to Herrengasse – a baroque boulevard and shopping mile. You can also admire the “painted house” in Herrengasse. The building is also called the Herzogshof.
If that wasn’t enough for you, you can continue shopping in Sporgasse. In this pedestrian zone you will find lots of shops as well as delicious ice cream parlors.
So much shopping makes you hungry. Where better to satisfy your hunger than in the typical Graz restaurant “Der Steirer”. Highly recommended 😋
IN THE AFTERNOON: EXPLORATION OF THE SCHLOSSBERG & CLOCK TOWER AND THE MUHRINSEL
Now some exercise is called for … it goes up on Schlossberg.
The 28-meter high Graz clock tower on the Schlossberg is probably the most famous landmark of the Styrian capital. The Schlossberg can be reached via the 260 steps of the Felsensteig from Schlossbergplatz. With every step you can enjoy the view of Graz more and more.
Another highlight of the city of Graz is the Murinsel. One can wonder whether it should be an island or a ship. In any case, you can comfortably enjoy a coffee or a cocktail there.
IN THE EVENING: CULINARY PLEASURE & NIGHTLIFE
For dinner we can recommend a very special restaurant: Dreizehn by Gauster
Due to the great reviews, you should reserve a table in advance. The menu includes international dishes as well as innovative bar food that can be ordered as a snack between meals or as a multi-course menu.
Since Graz is also known as a young, hip university city, there is of course no lack of opportunities for going out. Graz at night should not be missed … be it a cool cocktail bar, a club or just walking through the illuminated city.
