It is absolutely no secret that we like to drink wine and love hiking 😍 A combination of both is therefore the perfect day for us 😉 I have already reported on our favorite wine region in Austria in my blog about the South Styrian Wine Route. Now we wanted to explore a wine region in Switzerland for a change.
The panorama at the Lavaux wine terraces is simply breathtaking. You hike through the vineyards on paved paths with a constant view of Lake Geneva. This sight has its charm in every season.
Only the culinary offer left a lot to be desired. In Austria we are used to wandering from one wine tavern to the next and in between we always have the opportunity to have a bite to eat or to taste some wine. In Lavaux it seems to be a little different. You can only stop in the vinotheque or in normal restaurants. Well, every country has its own customs 😉
It should honestly be mentioned that we were out during lockdown times and therefore only take-away was allowed, but we hardly found any possibilities for this. So it’s best to take your provisions with you and have a little picnic in a nice place with a view 😍
Our personal opinion about the Lavaux wine region:
- fantastic panorama
- easy hike
- pack provisions
On the following pages you can get a very good overview of the Lavaux region:

Best travel time:
The best travel time is definitely late summer & autumn (September / October). At this time the wine terraces are really nice and lush green.
Hotel recommendations:
Le Mirador Resort & Spa
Hôtel-Restaurant Préalpina
More tips & recommendations:
Depending on how long you have time and how long you want to hike, you can get on at a wide variety of places on the hiking trail. The route is also very well connected by rail.
We chose the route from Saint-Saphorin to Cully (approx. 6 km) because we had to cover the same route again. Kayla doesn’t like taking the train that much 😉
You can get a better picture of this section of the trail in our YouTube video 😊
