In my opinion, Lucca is completely wrongly overshadowed by better-known cities such as Florence or Pisa. The mostly car-free Lucca took my heart by storm.
We spent a couple of hours in this charming city. This is our recommendation for a short visit in Lucca:
- stroll through the old town streets
- observe the hustle and bustle of the market
- enjoy the view from the Torre Guinigi
- enjoy lunch at the Piazza dell’Anfiteatro
- a walk on the historic city walls of Lucca

Just have a look at our Youtube video about Lucca, I think that says more than a thousand words 😉
Our personal opinion about Lucca:
- romantic, historical town
- an insider tip in Tuscany
Best travel time:
We recommend spring and autumn. In summer it can get very hot and often crowded with tourists.
Restaurant recommendation:
Ristorante Trattoria L’ Angolo Tondo (Piazza dell’Anfiteatro)
