It is really no secret that Sven and I are really great gourmets π We enjoy course menus with body and soul and of course that includes the right wine accompaniment. It should therefore come as no surprise to you that I had already selected and reserved the best restaurants in Stellenbosch weeks beforehand – I didn’t want to leave anything to chance π€£
Hermanus – the whale capital
Hermanus is considered to be one of the best places in the world for whale watching. From the end of July to the beginning of December, the sea giants come to South Africa from the cold waters of the Antarctic to calve.
Sven and I will remember our whale watching boat tour forever, albeit for completely different reasons π€£π€£π€£
Cape Town – a culinary delight
This trip had cost me a few years of persuasion. For reasons inexplicable to me, Sven showed no interest in South Africa for a long time. However, I can be very persistent when I have something in my mind π
I prepared a complete PowerPoint presentation and showed Sven what he was going to miss using very convincing pictures. My plan worked, immediately after my presentation he agreed. I didn’t even have to put forward my prepared additional arguments π
Melbourne – the second largest city in Australia
For me, Melbourne is a city that you fall in love with at second glance π As I have already emphasized in my Sydney blog, in our opinion Sydney is hard to beat π but Melbourne should not be underestimated at all.
Sydney – a city to fall in love with
Sven and I are seldom as united as we are when it comes to our opinion about this city. We fell so much in love with Sydney that we couldn’t get the idea of emigrating out of our heads for days π This mix of world metropolis and incredibly relaxed Australians is simply awesome. After only half a day, we noticed that Sydney was simply different from everything we had seen before π
Whitsunday Islands & Great Barrier Reef
The flight over the Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef is probably one of the most beautiful experiences on our travels. Although I have to admit that we felt a bit queasy in this little propeller plane π
Fraser Island – the largest sand island in the world
At first we weren’t sure whether we should take the trip to Fraser Island, it wasn’t really on our route. However, you don’t have the opportunity to explore the largest sand island in the world every day π
Byron Bay – Surfer’s paradise on Australia’s east coast
We were torn … Gold Coast or Byron Bay? Unfortunately, we didn’t have the time for either. The decision finally fell on Byron Bay, as this place seemed much more chilled to us than the Gold Coast, which is paved with skyscrapers. We shouldn’t regret it π
Australia’s outback – on the trail of the Aborigines
When I was asked earlier if we had already been to Australia, I always answered with full conviction: We are saving this trip for our retirement. Well, actually I should have known better back then …
When Sven and I were once again faced with the big question of where the next big trip should go, this time we were, for once, completely at odds. I wanted to go to South Africa, he would rather go to the Caribbean. Sven then made a joke about why we wouldn’t actually fly to Australia. Everyone who knows me knows that I don’t take such a statement as a joke. Shortly afterwards, I was already checking flights and scouring the internet for the highlights of Australia.
Las Vegas – a city that never sleeps
We arrived with very high expectations, we couldn’t stop being amazed the first night, gambled away our entire casino budget and were overjoyed to leave the city after 4 days π€£π€£π€£ But let’s start at the beginning …
