After a year of restrictions, we were pretty much fed up, as is probably the case with so many in the Covid-19 pandemic. For weeks the thermometer has only shown minus degrees. Frustrated that we weren’t even allowed to spend Christmas with our families because of the entry restrictions, plus we were completely overworked, our mood sank to zero at the beginning of February 😔 Our decision was made: We need a break !!!
But where to go? We had a great desire for sun and warmth. I scoured all possible websites for open borders and entry requirements. However, there wasn’t very much to choose from. I was all the more astonished that flights from Europe to the Dominican Republic were still being offered and that there were hardly any entry requirements. Never before had we booked an overseas trip at such short notice. We just had to risk it. It was either the most ingenious or the stupidest decision we ever made 🤣
We decided on the Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana – Adults Only Resort.
For 11 days we let ourselves be pampered with culinary delights and the sun shone on our stomachs. Sven was finally able to go to his beloved fitness center every day and we got a bit of the feeling of normalcy back 😊

However, that does not mean that there were no security measures at the resort ☝️ I felt like it was even more strictly controlled than at home. But that’s probably the only reason it can work.
Here are the most important Covid-19 precautionary measures (February 2021):
- disinfecting floor mats upon arrival from the airport
- Mask requirement at the resort (lobby, restaurants, bars, gym, as soon as you meet other people … pool and beach excluded)
- Masks are available free of charge throughout the resort
- Temperature measurement upon arrival at the resort and in restaurants
- Highly frequented places are cleaned / disinfected every hour
- Disinfectants are available in the room
- Distance rule 1.8 m
- Restaurants & gym are limited to a certain number of people
- Napkins and cutlery are shrink-wrapped
- any kind of food is behind plexiglass + assisted food service
- Beverage and food menu can be queried via QR code

However, you will get the best insight if you watch our YouTube video about the Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana (Adults Only) 😊
Here we also have a video about the Hyatt Ziva (right next door, it’s the family-friendly resort complex):
Our personal opinion about the Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana Resort:
- excellent cuisine
- Recommended specialty restaurants
- best gym we have ever had in our vacation
- very windy and a lot of seaweed in February
Best travel time:
You have to distinguish between the north and the south of the country. We recommend the area Punta Cana (south) in the months of December to April, as there is less rain during this period. The rainy season is from May to November, Hurricane season in September / October.
Hotel recommendation:
Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana – Adults Only
Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana – familyfriendly
Restaurant recommendations:
- Shutters Beachside (Breakfast & lunch only for club members, dinner for all guests)
