Seychelles – paradise on earth

Since we have already seen a lot of the world, it should be something very special for our honeymoon. After a lot of back and forth we decided on the Seychelles 😍

It also quickly became clear that we wanted to explore the 3 main islands: Mahé, Praslin and La Digue. For once, the Seychelles were a trip that was decided and booked relatively quickly.

We flew with Air Seychelles via Paris to the main island Mahé and then with a small propeller plane to Praslin.

A little tip: On the Air Seychelles website, you have the opportunity to place a bid and buy an upgrade. Because of our honeymoon we tried our luck and tada! 48 hours before departure we received the following message: HM Flight 16 – You’ve been upgraded!

Arrived on Praslin we immediately headed for our accommodation Constance Lemuria Praslin Seychelles and spent the first time with doing exactly nothing 😉

However, we usually can’t stand “doing nothing” for long and so we explored the “Top of the Mountain” viewpoint the next day.

This trail starts right at the hotel and leads over the golf course. Admittedly, it is only a short walk, but absolutely unsuitable with just wearing flip flops 🙈 In addition, there was the high humidity … when we arrived at the viewpoint, we had the feeling that we had been hiking through the mountains for hours đŸ€Ł

The next day we were smarter and hiked straight after breakfast (equipped with sneakers, water bottle and bathing gear) to the beach of Anse Georgette, a little further north. Since the transfer service to this beach is only available from 9 a.m., we had this absolute dream beach to ourselves. Truly cheesy, isn’t it?

One thing was still outstanding … we wanted to explore the VallĂ©e de Mai before we went on to the next island. After a 20-minute taxi ride we arrived in the national park – home of the largest coconut “Coco de Mer”. We did not take a guided tour because the park is very well signposted and you can’t get lost.

After 4 days on Praslin we were ready to explore something new. So we took the ferry from Praslin to La Digue (you can find more information about the ferry connections at the end of the travel report). The journey took only 15 minutes and the view was sensational.

We had chosen the best hotel on the island of La Digue – Le Domaine de L’Orangeraie Resort & Spa. We have hardly had such a great villa anywhere on our travels.

One thing should definitely be mentioned, La Digue is a car-free island. Even though we hadn’t booked a transfer to the hotel, a hotel employee was ready on arrival and took us to the hotel. Great service!

On the first day we decided to explore the island on foot, we headed north and just started walking. Once again we completely underestimated the high humidity … nevertheless we were on the road for about 3 hours and discovered some dream beaches.

However, our highlight was the next day. We decided to rent bikes and initially only had one destination – Anse Source d’Argent. It is absolutely justified that it is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world – more Seychelles feeling is not possible.

With the bikes we were of course faster than the day before on foot and therefore we discovered many more dream beaches on the island of La Digue.

After 3 nights on La Digue, we took the ferry to the main island Mahé. The crossing takes less than 2 hours. The trip was very entertaining due to the beautiful panorama.

Arrived on Mahé we took a taxi to our accommodation The H Resort Beau Vallon Beach.

We had booked a day trip from home through Viator to explore the highlights of MahĂ©. The driver picked us up at the hotel on time and took us to Victoria – the smallest capital in the world. There we had some time to explore the market, the Hindu temple Arul Mihu Navasakthi and the clock tower.

We went on to the botanical garden and the giant tortoises.

Eden Island was next on the agenda. Eden Island is an artificial island (similar to The Palm in Dubai) with lots of yachts, luxury apartments and designer shops. A bit too extravagant for my taste, but a short walk is worth it.

Another short stop at a tea factory and at the Suazier Waterfall …

Last but not least, we reached Venn’s Town – Mission Lodge. Today you can only find the ruins of Venn’s Town (this was once a farm and boarding school for freed slave children). However, from here you have probably the best view of MahĂ©’s west coast. Unfortunately, we didn’t necessarily have the perfect weather for a distant view.

After a total of 10 nights on the Seychelles Islands, we went back home.

Our personal opinion about the Seychelles:

  • pretty much the most beautiful beaches in the world
  • Honeymoon destination no.1
  • for those seeking peace and quiet
  • relatively expensive vacation destination
  • not so suitable for active holidays due to the high humidity (approx. 80%)

Best travel time:

Basically you can visit the island paradise all year round, but the best time to travel is between May and October, as there is less rainfall during this time.

The transfer between the islands can be booked via the following websites:
