Singapore – the cleanest city in the world

Exactly … you read that right – the cleanest city in the world. Until recently, chewing gum was banned. When entering the country, it could well happen that it would be confiscated. By the way, there is no shop in all of Singapore where you can buy chewing gum. Spitting and not flushing after the toilet are also treated as criminal offenses. Now it should be clear why this metropolis is actually one of the cleanest in the world.

However, this was not the reason for our visit to Singapore 😉 We planned a trip to Indonesia. As a stopover, Dubai or Singapore were available. Since we were already able to experience Dubai, we decided to stay in Singapore for 2 nights before continuing our journey.

The most famous hotel in Singapore – the Marina Bay Sands – was a bit too expensive for us. We stayed at the Pan Pacific Singapore hotel. We got a room with a great view of Marina Bay.

It was around noon with temperatures over 30 degrees and the jet lag was bothering us. That’s why we first decided to take a nap by the hotel pool.

In the late afternoon the temperatures got a bit more bearable and we took a walk to Marina Bay.

It was love at first sight 😊 As we were walking around and taking in the city, we ended up in Boat Quay – an area with great restaurants on the Singapore River. We chose a nice place, enjoyed the delicious food and planned our next day in peace.

Rested and strengthened, the next day we first went to the Singapore Flyer, currently the second highest Ferris wheel in the world. We had prepared ourselves for the crowds, but we had a cabin completely to ourselves. It was probably a little early for the tourists 😉 The view was gigantic.

Next up was another tourist attraction – Gardens by the Bay. This is a 101 hectare park and haven for nature lovers, mainly known for the Supertree Grove.

Am Rückweg ins Hotel machten wir noch einen kurzen Abstecher nach Chinatown.

On our last evening in Singapore we strolled to Clarke Quay, a vibrant nightlife district. We were spoiled for choice … Italian, German brewery, American bar, Asian … we finally decided on Mexican 😋

Like everything beautiful, our time in Singapore passed far too quickly. On our last walk through Marina Bay, we let the lights and the atmosphere work on us again. We were already enthusiastic about this city during the day and didn’t think that there could be another improvement. But Singapore at night is the absolute highlight. We will be back!

Our personal opinion about Singapore:

  • our favorite Asian city
