Varadero is probably not the most idyllic beach in Cuba, but it offers a lot of other advantages … a very good international flight connection, many great resort facilities with a private beach & Havana is only about 2 hours away by car.
Since we only had 10 days in Cuba, the Cayos (Cuba’s islands) were too far away for us. We therefore decided to spend 3 nights in Varadero.
We chose the all-inclusive resort Royalton Hicacos Resort & Spa – mainly because of the very good reviews, which we can completely agree with.
main restaurant
Of course, we spent most of the time on the beautiful, kilometer-long beach “Playa Varadero”. To be honest, we had expected a lot more tourists, but this may also differ from facility to facility. At our resort everything was very spacious and we usually managed to get a sun lounger in the first row π
Unfortunately we didn’t take much photos, it’s best to just watch our Varadero video to get a better impression πππ
Our personal opinion about Varadero:
- beautiful Caribbean beach
- perfect for all-inclusive vacationers
- switch off and relax
Best travel time:
The winter months from November to March are considered the best time to travel to Cuba. During this time, pleasant temperatures between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius can be expected. However, cold fronts can also pass through in the winter months, causing temperatures to tumble to 15 degrees at night.
Hotel recommendation:
Royalton Hicacos Resort & Spa
More tips & recommendations:
It always depends on personal preference, but for individual tourists, like us, we recommend planning only a few days to relax in Varadero. The place Varadero itself is not particularly worth seeing. We visited Varadero center mainly to buy a SIM card for our cell phone.
However, if you are one of those tourists who can spend 2 weeks at the stand, then we can 100% recommend this resort facility.
We gave our waiter a few CUC tips at dinner, from then on a great table was actually reserved for us almost every day and we were never left on dry land π€£
